Exciting new project!

So just in case building one house wasn’t enough, we decided to take on another renovation project! The truth is that we needed somewhere to live while our new home was being built, and we have cats which would have made renting tricky. At the same time, there was a good opportunity to buy an old house nearby so we jumped at the chance.

The house is a four bedroom, one bathroom ex-govie in Canberra’s Inner North, built in ’59 and enthusiastically renovated in the 70’s. Apart from the dated décor and awkward layout, the house is almost completely sun-starved (so much so that I eat my breakfast standing in the one sliver of sunlight in the kitchen).

Our vision is to create a functional, light, open plan, modern, family home by doing a small extension out the front (bedroom and ensuite) and back (family room), and re-working the existing floorplan to accommodate North-east facing Lounge, Family and Dining rooms and improved views and access to the back yard and entertaining areas. I’m calling the look ‘Urban Luxe’; a little bit edgy but with loads of comfort!

So this is our world for the next few months… Stay tuned.

  1. That sounds lovely, Gina! There are certainly plenty of houses around in need of a bit of love. I’ll be keeping my eye out around March for an exciting blog post then 😉

    1. It’s so much fun, I can’t wait to see it come together now! Do you know what kind of reno you’d like to do or where? I’d love to see what you’d come up with 🙂

      1. No idea yet… it’s just an idea I’m toying with at the moment 🙂 Perhaps in the Woden area and I’m thinking potentially quite a soft and romantic interior like light wash timber floors, sheer curtains and that kind of thing. I’d like to have something to work on around March next year (by then my house should be well and truly finished!) x
